News + New Good Things from Tia Norman

The quieter you become, the more you are able to hear.

Peaceful, Centered + Connected

The truth is I didn't know what Centering Prayer was and "mysticism" sounded intriguing while at the same time perhaps on the borderline of something God might frown upon. I don't have any words to describe how not knowing what these things were originally has changed everything about my life for the better experientially.

It's meditation, it's healing, it's wholeness.

After leading a seven-week virtual course earlier this year on these things that were once foreign to me I am thrilled to share the teachings that are now available in my new on-demand course, "Growing Closer to God Through Centering Prayer"

This self-paced course is designed to help you move from a transactional approach to prayer to a profound, intimate relationship with the divine. You can access the course materials at your convenience, allowing you to learn and practice at your own pace. Here’s a glimpse of what you can expect:

  • Inner Peace and Presence: Learn to cultivate a deep sense of inner peace and present-moment awareness.
  • Self-Awareness and Growth: Understand your thoughts and emotions, and navigate your spiritual journey with greater self-awareness.
  • Spiritual Connection: Connect scripture to your meditation practice and awaken to your true self and divine presence.
  • Practical Tools: Integrate meditation into your busy life, discover new ways to relate to stress and anxiety, improve relationships, and open up to new possibilities.

This course is perfect for spiritual seekers, meditation enthusiasts, social activisits, busy professionals, personal growth advocates, and faith-based practitioners. Whether you’re new to meditation or looking to deepen your practice, this course offers valuable insights and practical tools to enhance your spiritual journey.

Words from previous participants

Q: What aspects of the course content did you find most helpful?

"I found all sessions helpful, so much one could do a deep dive in. Sessions 5 - Divine Therapy and Session 6 - True Self were both quite helpful to me at this particular stage in my life. I'm intrigued with where spirit and psyche/psychology intersect from a contemplative Christian spirituality framework. I also appreciated Tia's willingness to share some of her own lived experiences on her journey with centering prayer/contemplative spirituality."

Q: What did you enjoy most about the course?

"Connecting with other women, but women of color in particular, on this contemplative journey. My experience is being one of very few, if not the only one, in these spaces. I was thrilled to discover Tia as an active leader in contemplative spirituality offering online opportunities to learn of and nurture these soul-soothing and life-enriching practices."

Q: Have you been able to integrate Centering Prayer into your daily life since taking the course?

"Yes, fairly consistently. I tend to better sustain my practice with fairly consistent study and attention to it."

A New Way to See the Good News

A new way to see the Good News is a short passage that may offer a fresh perspective or insight into the ancient collection of poems, letters, and stories known as the Bible.

"The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full."

- John 10:10

When I was let go from my job in February of 2017 I committed 40 days to believing this verse might be true. I leaned into the things that felt "full" to me and decided I'd give only doing work that I loved for those 40 days a shot. I led my first mediation during that time. That was more than seven years ago and here I am...still leaning, learning, still full.

Until next time...

News + New Good Things from Tia Norman Contemplation is the root of prayer, and questions are the seeds of wisdom. The two together invite us to a deep relationship with life’s mystery. -Unknown Peaceful, Centered + Connected One thing that has always struck and stayed with me as I've taken deep dives into theology, the spiritual journey, and various periods where I've felt drawn by something bigger than me and also lost at the same time is how Jesus often responded to questions with...

News + New Good Things from Tia Norman New + Good Things Hello friends! I have two new and good things to share with you in between my regularly scheduled letters this month. First, Awakenings (the community I serve as pastor of) was recently featured in a USA Today article titled "As millions leave organized religion, spiritual and secular communities offer refuge." It’s an honor to be recognized for the work we're doing together as a community, and I’m grateful for the opportunity to bring...
