Join Me for the First Black Contemplative Prayer Virtual Summit!

News + New Good Things from Tia Norman

"Don’t ask what the world needs. Ask what makes you come alive, and go do it. Because what the world needs is people who have come alive."

-Howard Thurman

Peaceful, Centered + Connected

Somewhere in the silence and stillness, I found myself alive. Somewhere in my aliveness I felt compelled to share this practice of silence with others. I found a community that said, "You can share what makes you come alive as an offering with us."

This excited me.

So I went to the neighborhood library and I reserved one of the free rooms they offer so that we could all sit together in this great silence.

Sometimes three people from the community would show and sometimes one.

Eventually, this silent group moved to new spaces: a studio, a local baked goods business, and an event space. Sometimes our group of one or three welcomed new faces. We also said many goodbyes.

Over the years this great silence spilled out of those spaces and connected me to more people who also felt alive due to this intentional quiet time.

Recently, I asked a few of them if they'd like to present during a summit I've been dreaming up. They all said yes.

Isn't that amazing?!

It brings me great joy to introduce them to you as the teachers and guides who will lead the First Black Contemplative Prayer Virtual Summit.

Whatever space you find yourself in; You're invited.

Come alive.

This summit is designed for everyone, led by Black voices, and aimed at diversifying the contemplative space

It's more than just an event—it’s a space where we can gather, learn, and grow together. You’ll hear from voices that resonate with the richness of our shared experiences and gain practical insights on how to weave contemplative practices into your everyday life.

A New Way to See the Good News

A new way to see the Good News is a short passage that may offer a fresh perspective or insight into the ancient collection of poems, letters, and stories known as the Bible.

"Jesus said, `Come and see.' They went and saw the place where Jesus was staying."

- John 1:39

I chose this verse during this time because it reminds me to be curious and to keep my heart open to the movement and invitation of Spirit. It seems when I connect to the newness in this, I connect to the new thing in my life. For instance, what would happen if I reserved a free room in a public library for a group to sit in silence? I am still living in the come and see.

Until next time.

Grace + Ease,

Tia

News + New Good Things from Tia Norman Contemplation is the root of prayer, and questions are the seeds of wisdom. The two together invite us to a deep relationship with life’s mystery. -Unknown Peaceful, Centered + Connected One thing that has always struck and stayed with me as I've taken deep dives into theology, the spiritual journey, and various periods where I've felt drawn by something bigger than me and also lost at the same time is how Jesus often responded to questions with...

News + New Good Things from Tia Norman “In silence, God ceases to be an object and becomes an experience.” -Thomas Merton Peaceful, Centered + Connected I have wrestled with this segment a lot this week. I have clickety-clacked the letters on this keyboard forward and then deleted everything with one swift highlight of the mouse and a single tap of the backspace key. What is one thing I might offer? It has boiled down to this. You can have peace in knowing we are all allowed our preferences...

News + New Good Things from Tia Norman New + Good Things Hello friends! I have two new and good things to share with you in between my regularly scheduled letters this month. First, Awakenings (the community I serve as pastor of) was recently featured in a USA Today article titled "As millions leave organized religion, spiritual and secular communities offer refuge." It’s an honor to be recognized for the work we're doing together as a community, and I’m grateful for the opportunity to bring...
